10 Reasons Solo Is The Worst Star Wars Film To Date
2. It's A Completely Pointless Movie
Fine, you could say Rogue One and the Prequels were pointless too, but they did justify their existence. It showed a darker side of the Star Wars galaxy and allowed us to see Episode IV in a new light since we now know the sacrifices made to get those Death Star plans.
The Prequels showed Anakin's fall to the Dark Side and also showed the Galaxy in the pre-Empire days. On the other hand, Solo doesn't really tell us anything and the main new thing we learn is how he got his name, which no-one needed to know.
It doesn't add anything to its beloved hero nor does it flesh out the wider Galaxy at all. If anything, when members of the Empire occasionally appear they're turned into comic relief in a misguided manner.
It doesn't connect to the other Star Wars movies and it's a rare film which tells the audience absolutely nothing about anything, so there isn't any real reason to go and see it. If Disney insist on making these origin stories that no-one asked for, they're going to have to ensure the films actually do something we haven't seen hundreds of times before.
