10 Reasons Star Wars Sequels Are Still Superior To The Prequels

1. The Three Sequels Are Far Better Individual Films

And finally, yes, the Prequels are superior to the Sequels in a few areas. They've got stronger lightsaber duels, world-building, music, a more interesting story and they feel more connected as a trilogy... but looking at the trilogies on a film-by-film basis, it's clear which one comes out on top.

Flaws and all, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi are pretty bloody great as sci-fi blockbusters go. They've got stunning visuals, fantastic action, mostly strong writing, a ton of heart and an irresistible spirit.

Meanwhile, Rise of Skywalker is a lot weaker, but thanks largely to the strength of its acting and technical values, it's still a little better than the Prequels.

The Sequels are not perfect by any means and just like the Prequels, they made plenty of mistakes but their lowest points certainly don't match the terrible politics in The Phantom Menace, Anakin and Padme's ghastly love story in Attack of the Clones and the badly-executed tragedy of the ludicrously over-praised Revenge of the Sith, as well as the underwhelming dialogue and acting throughout that earlier trilogy.

The Sequels have better acting, better directing, better writing, fewer plot holes, characters who actually have some personality and a far stronger emotional core - as such, even for a fan-base as obnoxious and idiotic as that of Star Wars, arguing that the Prequels are better than the Sequels is a dumb film argument if there ever was one.
