10 Reasons Star Wars Sequels Are Still Superior To The Prequels
7. JJ Abrams And Rian Johnson Are Far Better Directors Than George Lucas
In this particular area, the Sequels absolutely annihilate the Prequels.
As brilliant a job as George Lucas might've done on A New Hope back in 1977, his direction of the Prequels was considerably less impressive.
They are visually stunning for sure, but that's mainly thanks to the great special effects and production design. The actual directing throughout the three movies is generally pretty flat, especially in The Phantom Menace.
In contrast, all three of the Sequels boasted terrific directing to match their sharp technical values, with both JJ Abrams (who directed Episode VII and Episode IX) and Rian Johnson (Who did Episode VIII) doing a smashing job in the director's chair.
All three movies have beautiful visuals and sharp cinematography galore, but Last Jedi was perhaps the stand-out. Thanks to Rian Johnson's efforts this was quite possibly the most visually stunning Star Wars movie ever made.
