10 Reasons The Dark Knight Rises Is Awesome

8. Bane and His Origin

The villain's fully-formed back-story, from the early rumours to the the true-story as revealed by Talia did a fantastic job of taking the comic book origins and making it fit in the Nolan-verse. While some fans will recoil at the thought of Bane being so closely tied to the League of Shadows, it makes perfect sense in Nolan's world. We've seen Bane team up with Ras and Talia in the comics too, so it's not too far-fetched. Tom's Hardy's voice as Bane is incredible. His creepy, colonial British-cum-Caribbean accent is a slight subversion from the comics (Bane's father was at one point thought to be English) but works perfectly. His eloquent, rabble-rousing speeches inspire terror and revolution, he is charming and enigmatic, threatening and inspiring. And finally his physique creates an imposing figure. Of course he's not as large as his venom-pumped comic appearances, but this is Gotham and its villains as envisioned by Chris and Jonathan Nolan.
