10 Reasons The Dark Tower Bombed

1. It Should've Been A TV Series

Tying in with that prior remark about The Dark Tower being "unfilmable", many feel that the franchise would've been better served with a long-form TV series rather than a single 95-minute movie.

Given that we're living through the golden age of TV right now, there really wouldn't have been a better time for HBO or Netflix to sink money into, say, a six-episode adaptation of the first book, which could distill the headier and more complex aspects of King's world in a slower, more controlled fashion.

Prior to the film's release, there were in fact plans for a TV series to be released next year, which would flesh out the movie's story more and have Idris Elba and Tom Taylor reprising their roles.

However, with the movie being a box office dud, it's pretty safe to say that those plans are all-but-dead, and it's unlikely they'll be able to lure Idris Elba back for more given the critical and commercial response to this first outing.

Again, audiences knew that the film was clearly trying to juggle too much at once, and when you can watch incredible new Game of Thrones episodes from the comfort of your bed, why even bother heading out to the movies at all, especially ones as dubious as this?

What did you think of The Dark Tower? A justified bomb or a misunderstood cult classic in the making? Shout it out in the comments!
