10. It Had Well-Known Production Troubles

Few things can sink audience enthusiasm for a movie faster than well-documented production problems, especially in the age of social media where bad news spreads like wildfire.

For starters, it certainly didn't help that The Dark Tower was delayed from its original January 13th release date to February 17...and again to July 28th, and finally once more to its final date of August 4th.

As if that wasn't enough, Variety published an article mere days before the film's release detailing its laboured development, with director Nikolaj Arcel's first edit of the movie reportedly alarming producers, who spent extensive time in post-production trying to cut the film into a more coherent and marketable whole.

In addition, $6 million was spent on re-shoots to clarify the Gunslinger's backstory, decisively hammering home that the movie struggled all the way to the finish line.

That this news broke on the eve of the movie's release no doubt deterred many potential customers from parting with their cash, and likely deciding to wait for a VOD release instead, if at all.
