1. Its Insanely Funny

Take the entire jump rope scene for instance as a good example of just what makes the jokes work for both kids and adults. Theres slapstick humour, precocious children, a bumbling villain, and some clever wordplay. It hits every funny bone and continues to do so throughout the entire film. The rest of the movie is more of the same. It seems to be endlessly quotable, from Kuzco arrogantly having an old man thrown out of his palace because he threw off the emperors groove to Yzma declaring pull the lever, Kronk, before falling into a pit of alligators of their own design to Kuzco wisely surmising, "Don't tell me - we're about to go over a huge waterfall." Its not that other Disney films arent funny or dont offer material for adults, its just that The Emperors New Groove does it so consistently, earning huge laughs in nearly every scene while rarely missing on its jokes. It may be an epic adventure in scope, but at its heart, the film is a comedy, a dynamic that is often the opposite in typical Disney films, and one that makes this one stand apart.
