10 Reasons The Emperor’s New Groove Is The Best Disney Movie

5. A Legitimately Terrifying Villain

Just look at that grotesque face. Yzma might be savage and cruel but the film is quick to point out that above all else, she is hideous. Sporting a wrinkly face and a dress that barely fits, Yzma€™s creepy smile and Eartha Kitt€™s haunting voice are still scarred into children€™s minds. Beyond her apalling appearance, Yzma mannerisms are scary as all hell. She flat out tries to assassinate the hero and nearly succeeds. To go with that attempted regicide, she consistently advocates violence from the peaceful Kronk and is treats the only person who cares for her like a mule. Perhaps the scariest part of Yzma is just how realistic her plan is. Llama transformations aside, in the real world, politicians and royals are constantly scheming to snatch the crown from each other. This makes her motivations feel both grand and believably simple at the same time. She€™s not trying to take over the world, she just wants a bit more power, a goal that€™s so attainable, it makes the prospects of her achieving it truly terrifying.
