10 Reasons The Flash Failed
9. Studio Meddling
When Zack Snyder launched the DCEU with 2013's Man of Steel, WB was quick to announce a new slate of films that would fill out their shared universe, including a Flash movie starring Ezra Miller, set for a 2018 release date.
After Snyder's Man of Steel followup Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice divided fans, WB decided to change course, hiring Joss Whedon to rework Snyder's upcoming Justice League film after Snyder stepped away from the project.
Whedon's mangled movie failed at the box office, bringing about yet another course-correction for the DCEU. Walter Hamada stepped in as head of DC studios, and began retooling The Flash to fit in with his DC vision.
Hamada's controversial tenure saw him battling with Justice League star Ray Fisher, resulting in Fisher being written out of The Flash, which he was planned to costar in. More changes were to come.
In 2022, new WB CEO David Zaslav removed Hamada as head of DC studios. Zaslav tinkered with The Flash, ensuring that it would align with newly-minted DC head James Gunn's vision for the franchise.
Each new studio head tweaked the film, resulting in contrasting visions that muddled The Flash beyond repair.
