10 Reasons The Flash Failed

8. Multiverses Are Already Stale

When WB first announced the film in 2014, making a Flash movie that involved alternate Earths was a no-brainer.

Flash first introduced the concept of alternate Earths in the DC comics, and Jim Lee's celebrated Flashpoint arc made Flash's manipulation of time via the speedforce a major plot point. If any character should introduce multiverses to the masses, The Flash was the logical choice.

However, almost a decade elapsed before The Flash finally landed in theatres, and in that time, the multiverse had not only become a familiar trope, it had already grown stale.

After Endgame, Marvel took the concept and ran with it.

By the time the Flash saw release, Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home had all dealt with the multiverse as a plot point. Beyond this, Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All At Once and Best Animated Feature winner Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse showed audiences what an elevated take on the subject looked like.

After these powerhouses dazzled moviegoers, The Flash had no hope of bringing something new to the table.
