10 Reasons The Flash Failed
7. Snyder Fans Made Online Discussions Toxic
While Zack Snyder's vision for DC's most iconic heros rubbed movie critics the wrong way, a significant contingent of fans loved Snyder's dark, thematically-rich take on DC's biggest icons.
Once Whedon's Justice League tanked, a social media campaign dubbed #ReleasetheSnyderCut gained traction on Twitter and other social media platforms, resulting in the release of Zack Snyder's version of Justice League on streaming.
Even though they succeeded in their aim to have Snyder's vision for Justice League released, Snyderverse fans weren't satisfied. The Snyderverse faithful continued to insist that the director be allowed to finish the five film arc he planned before stepping away from DC films.
Their demands grew so loud that James Gunn addressed the backlash on two separate occasions, insisting that he will not be influenced by persistent social media campaigns.
Despite Gunn's pleas for fans to be openminded, The Flash's trailers were bombarded by negative comments from pro-Snyder accounts, poisoning the social media well, and further hamstringing a production already beset by numerous controversies.
