10 Reasons To Be Excited For Marvel Phase Three
7. Marvel Are Taking Risks
There is no denying that Marvel played it fairly safe in the beginning, and it’s understandable considering how big a risk the cinematic universe was to start with – one bad film and the Avengers buzz is done. DC’s first attempt couldn’t even make it into production.
It wasn’t until Guardians of the Galaxy when Marvel tested the water, which was heavily predicted to be their first failure instead it ended up being the highest grossing comic film of 2014 and was widely touted as Marvel’s best film to date.
It’s rewarding for fans to see them take risks; there’s only so much they can get out of the same characters squabbling over Tony Stark’s food stash. Phase Three is all about Marvel leaving their comfort zone and giving their lesser known heroes a chance to shine. After the Phase 2 ending risk of Ant-Man, Doctor Strange represents a huge gamble.
Most importantly, Phase Three will also play host to Marvel’s first female lead superhero film; Captain Marvel. It’s quite frankly ridiculous that it’s taken this long for Marvel (and DC for that matter) to give a female comic character their own film, and even more so that it’s considered a risk. Carol Danvers is a vastly underrated character, and Captain Marvel is destined to be a huge hit among fans.
