While Tom Hardy has long been a contender for James Bond (and indeed just about every half way good looking British actor has been at some point), it was his headlining role in a massively successful franchise that has really stoked the fires of those casting rumours to inferno levels.

In taking over from Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky in George Miller's Mad Max series, Hardy has proved to film studios the world over that he can lead a franchise revival, earn rave reviews and bring in some hefty international box office takings to boot.
