It is a truth universally acknowledged that a Spider-Man in need of an actor is best off looking to the UK. Tobey Maguire is the actor who launched the modern web head onto cinema screens, but he sort of pales in comparison to Andrew Garfield. It's Garfield who got Peter Parker's awkward charm to work where Maguire didn't. He also nailed the accent, was convincingly bully-able whilst keeping the audience on-side, and his lanky physicality was more in line with Spider-Man's look than Maguire's bulky Hollywood figure (should Spider-Man even have abs?). So, looking across the pond once more and choosing the British Tom Holland for the role makes sense. Especially because, again, Holland's record on and off screen is similar to Garfield's in terms of charm, acting ability, and being a bit of a goof but he has the added experience of being a teen. And being a British teen means he's not going to be one of those awful child actor divas they recruit from the Disney Channel and go off the deep end.
