10 Reasons Toy Story 4 Is A Terrible Idea

9. The Shorts Have Been Disappointing

It isn't actually that surprising that we're going to be given another feature length Toy Story. Since the end of the trilogy in 2010, a year hasn't gone by without some form of new Toy Story content coming out. We've had a run of Toy Story Toons - Hawaiian Vacation, Small Fry and Partysaurus Rex (which came before Cars 2, The Muppets and Finding Nemo 3D respectively) - and now the series has branched out into TV specials; last year we got Toy Story Of Terror and next month sees to premiere of Toy Story That Time Forgot. Sadly those title puns are where the fun ends. Each short is ten minutes starring the Toy Story cast with none of the usual Toy Story charm. The jokes fall flat and the general concepts go little further than "wouldn't it be cool if..." The worst is probably Small Fry, which sees Buzz switched with a Happy Meal-style replica, a plot device just so Pixar can trot out silly designs for a bunch of joke fast food toys. That's literally the entire short, and while it's kinda humorous, it's irritatingly lazy (made all the worse that it was followed by The Muppets, a gleefully inventive feature). If these are setting the style of Toy Story 4, then it doesn't look good for the creativity going forward
