10 Reasons Toy Story 4 Is A Terrible Idea

8. There's Nowhere Else To Go

Toy Story Of Terror, a vaguely Halloween-themed half hour short from the gang, saw Bonnie, her Mum and most of her toys visit a motel. The owner of said motel was a devious character, stealing toys from their unsuspecting owners and selling them for a tidy profit. Wait a minute, doesn't that sound exactly the same as Toy Story 2's villain, the Al of Al's Toy Barn? Why yes. Yes it does. And here's the problem with dragging Toy Story out; sooner rather than later it's going to totally run out of ideas. In terms of major plot ideas coming from the concepts of toys, most have already been done in the original movies - destructive kids, new favourites, mature collectors, broken toys, owners growing up etc. - with few new ideas left to explore. Toy Story 3 was already going pretty obscure with day-care and the shorts have either gone niche to the point where it's unreal (bath toys have their own party community in Partysaurus Rex) or repeating itself. There's no way Toy Story 4 can craft a full story without, in some way, going back over old ground, or at the very least undermining previous elements. Toy Story Of Terror also retconned Jessie's character, having her developed claustrophobia due to her long time in storage. Despite having only been vaguely alluded to once before (and even then it wasn't from a psychological stand-point), this provided the crux of the whole episode.
