10 Reasons Why 2013 Is A Seminal Year For Sci-Fi Films

3. Pacific Rim

PacificRim When an alien attack in the form of giant monstrous creatures threatens the Earth's existence, mankind fights back the only way we know how: By building giant robots and pitting them against the monsters. Why We Are Excited: Guillermo Del Toro has a unique ability shared by very few directors to physically manifest the stuff dreams are made of. His films are filled with the most whimsical creatures and creations, and his track record is impeccable. Well, this time around, it looks as though he has reached into the minds and dreams of every man's inner child and created a film that I cannot imagine how anyone can not be excited for. It is a premise that, in the wrong hands, could result in a completely ridiculous, vapid, mindless film. But with Guillermo Del Toro behind the wheel (who also co-wrote the original screenplay), I have no doubt that this will be anything less than the most entertaining film of the summer.
