10 Reasons Why 2013 Is A Seminal Year For Sci-Fi Films

4. The World's End

TheWorldsEnd 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again, culminating in the fabled pub named The World's End. On the way, though, the world actually begins to end, and the friends have to band together to survive the impending apocalypse. Why We Are Excited: At this point, any original Sci-Fi film is something to be excited about. But when the film in question is directed by Edgar Wright and serves as the long-awaited culmination of his Blood and Ice Cream trilogy (following Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), it can't be measured against normal gauges of excitement. Starring Blood and Ice Cream alumni Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman (who had a cameo in Shaun of the Dead) and newcomers Eddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike, The World's End looks like it's shaping up to be everything we could have wanted and more. Wright, Pegg and Frost's track record is impeccable, and their first foray into Sci-Fi is something to be very excited about.
