10 Reasons Why Everyone Should Watch Homicide Life On The Street

1. Its Emotional Resonance

NBC

Whether we watched an unsuspecting Baltimore tourist (Robin Williams) witness his wife being gunned down in front of him and desperately try to keep his family together in an unknown city, a mother (Marcia Gay Harden) whose young son happened to stand in the line of fire in a gang shooting, or even Det. Tim Bayliss gradually confronting the fact that he was sexually abused as a child, Homicide resonated strongly on an emotional level.

The characters felt three-dimensional and totally realistic. We got to know the detectives of the Homicide Squad and followed them through turbulent times - in and out of the job. I would argue that the only other show that could possibly rival Homicide in terms of raw emotion is its successor The Wire.

If Homicide taught us anything, it was that life isn't fair. And it certainly isn't fair that a TV show this great isn't talked about more often.
