10 Reasons Why Looper is Best Film of 2012

4. The Themes

Looper plays with some fairly heavy, and I must say pretty brave, themes. These themes create a sort of unanswerable moral quandary in the viewer which play along the lines of the classic €˜would you murder a young boy if you knew for certain that he€™d turn into Hitler?€™ Suffice it to say and without including spoilers, Looper can get pretty shocking, even upsetting at times and again it€™s probably a testament to Rian Johnson€™s superior script that we leave the theatre actually feeling pretty good about life. Looper asks you questions about destiny, affirms our ability as human beings to change what might feel unchangeable; to break the cycles that lock us into our set behaviours and perspectives. This is where the true complexity of Looper€™s story lies; not in the plot or what happens to the characters on-screen, but in the questions these things force you to ask yourself.
