3. Execution
Of course strong themes will only get you so far in cinema; execution is king. After all, watching a movie with great thematic depth but poor execution is about as bad as watching a film that boasts awesome CGI but little between the ears (a.k.a a Michael Bay movie). Fortunately, Looper offers healthy helpings of both, like a stunningly beautiful woman who turns out to be a molecular scientist. When Looper calls for action or suspense, Johnson proves that he knows exactly how its done and when it comes time for introspection, hes equally as adept at getting the message across. In short, Looper boasts superb execution on nearly every level and although it isnt exactly a perfect movie (is there such a thing?) its probably as close any mainstream movie has come to it this year.
