10 Reasons Why Mad Max: Fury Road Beats Furious 7

7. Tight And Focused Characterisation

Too many movie franchises today have become overbloated with multiple characters to the point where the writers are finding it increasingly difficult to avoid over-egging the pudding - we saw it most recently in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, where countless heroes and villains vie for screen time leaving none of them with any real screen presence. Given that Furious 7 has been running for so long it's no surprise that it too suffers from the same problem. Looking back over the film and it's hard to recall exactly what certain characters actually did, all merging into a generic mass of action heroics. Fury Road keeps the characterisation lean, mean and efficient, with only a handful of central protagonists chased by a villain with a few distinct underlings at his beck and call. Whether a continuation of the franchise will lead to the inevitable problems highlighted above remains to be seen, but judging by the original trilogy Miller has a good knack for paring things down to retain that much-needed focus.
