4. John Carter€™s World May Be Creative And Awesome To Look At, But Jack Kirby Didn€™t Draw It

A lot of love went into the world of John Carter, both in the books and the movie. It€™s beautiful to read about, look at, consider, and be a part of. But quite frankly, if fantastically crazy-looking images don€™t come from a Marvel artist€™s pen, I don€™t care. Marvel and no one else designs the vivid stuff of dreams€”the overwhelming, the wondrous, the ecstatic, and the terrifying. I can€™t wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy. That is an absolutely cool part of the Marvel Universe. But if anyone else from another company ever attempts to draw an airship or alien, they had better get it bought by Marvel. Everyone knows that Marvel can have its characters fight guns with swords, but when the John Carter movie tried to pull it off it was completely ridiculous and sundered what little suspension of disbelief I had left after the opening narration (also better in Thor). The characters and locales in each successive John Carter story become increasingly outlandishly awesome with wondrous images representing thought-provoking tones, but count me out.
