10 Reasons Why Marvel Will Never Make A Solo Black Widow Film
10. The Misogynist Minority
Society is now more progressive than it has ever been before, but that doesn't mean everyone is treated equally. Sexism is prevalent in many walks of life, and unfortunately, that includes something as universal as cinema. Many fans are quick to blame misogyny for why we will never see a solo Black Widow movie and while some may be quick to discredit this as an overreactive viewpoint, it's worth taking a closer look at the facts. Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road proved that female stars are more than capable of kicking !*$% in an action movie, but, unfortunately, Theron's success in the role also provoked outrage among some close-minded cinema-goers. In a post on the blog Return of Kings, Aaron Clarey asked men everywhere to boycott Fury Road on the grounds that it's "feminist propaganda". Couple that with the online backlash to an all-female Ghostbusters film and it becomes clear that we still have a long way to go regarding female representation on film. Of course, not everyone shares these bigoted views and for the most part, they remain in the minority, but it's hard to deny that sexism isn't still deeply rooted in modern society. Fans may be vocal about their desire to see a Black Widow movie, but there's also a large group opposed to the idea, or at the very least, indifferent.
