10 Reasons Why Mission: Impossible Is The Best Film Franchise Ever

3. The Consistency

Perhaps the biggest trick M:I has pulled over the years is somehow crafting a franchise that gets better with every installment - or at the very least, doesn't dip below the initial benchmark set by its maiden outing.

Just take a look at their standing on Metacritic, the review aggregate site, for a good idea of their upward trajectory. Though both Mission: Impossible and M:I 2 are both perched at the upper end of the "mixed to average" bracket, they both clock out with a score of 59 on average.

From there, the only way is higher for Ethan Hunt, with III scoring 66, Ghost Protocol hitting 73, Rogue Nation landing on 75 and Fallout cracking the upper echelons to notch a score of 86 - a mark scaled only on rare occasions by blockbuster film entries.

While other franchise films have hit such heights - Black Panther, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mad Max: Fury Road and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 all matched or exceeded that score - none have enjoyed such consistent quality improvement to reach that bar, placing M:I's increasing consistency in a league of its own.
