10 Reasons Why Mission: Impossible Is The Best Film Franchise Ever

2. The Performances

The heroes and zeros have already been touched upon but these characters would only breathe if they were in the hands of excellent performers - and, even in multiplexes dominated by franchise films crammed with acting talent, M:I has some of the best in the business.

Even better, some of them deliver work that ranks among their finest throughout their franchise appearances. Tom Cruise may have been nominated for three Academy Awards throughout his career but there's a case to be made that Ethan Hunt remains his most nuanced - and perhaps quasi-autobiographical - performance.

Away from the leading man, his revolving support unit has seen some excellent turns too, with both Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson arguably approaching career-best deliveries to date in Rogue Nation and Fallout respectively.

Henry Cavill in the latter too gets the chance to cut loose compared to his then-dominant Supeman persona, while Sean Harris' versatility has been previously mentioned. Even those early doors cameos way back in the first installment are great to savour, no matter how brief. There's nary a bad turn among the players here.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
