5. He Polarises Opinion

In the intro to this article, I described what can only be branded as my "relative disgust" with Nicolas Cage prior to having better-delved into his filmography. And though there are a lot of people out there (critic Roger Ebert included) who constantly defend Cage's right to his manic performances and ill-judged movie choices, the fact remains: the cultural opinion on Nicolas Cage is unashamedly divided. But what use is a real Hollywood star 'less they're the subject of such debates? Do we really want somebody who everybody likes, or would we prefer to have a proper movie star - one who is constantly changing opinions and shattering views. The fact that Nicolas Cage has continued to polarize opinion for almost 30 years is a credit to the man. Above all, it means one thing: he definitely isn't boring.
