10 Reasons Why Star Trek: First Contact Ruined the Borg

9. Data of Borg

€œThe android, Data. Primitive artificial organism. You will be obsolete in the new order.€ These were the words spoken by Locutus, as the voice of the Borg in €œThe Best of Both Worlds.€ Apparently the Borg have very poor memories; as, six years later, they intentionally captured Data and intended to make him equal to the Queen. Either that, or the word obsolete means something entirely different to the Borg. Data himself is nearly farcical in this film and one of the greatest points of discontinuity. Aside from the Borg€™s sudden interest in something they find €œobsolete€ the fact that he can suddenly turn his emotion chip on and off completely negates the fact that in the previous film it was €œfused to his neural net€ and was impossible to remove or deactivate. Still, if we assume that he has repaired this since Generations, there is the matter of the Borg€™s inability to crack Data€™s encryption of the Enterprise computer. If he is obsolete, then the Borg, a superior cybernetic life form must be able to outdo him, right? I mean the Borg don€™t suffer from ego do they?
