10 Reasons Why Superman Isn't An Interesting Superhero

9. When You Take His Powers Away He Turns Into Any Other Superhero

returns superman If you were to remove all of the powers I just mentioned in the last entry you know what you're left with? A regular person. What's interesting is that the majority of the major superheroes from Marvel and DC are normal people who must overcome their darkest fears and conflicts in order to become heroes. Superman was just born with it, which is basically a get out of jail free card in the comic book universe. The Man of Steel often comes across as dull because there is never a sense that he has earned anything. Batman, Iron man, Spider-Man, Thor, The Hulk and Captain America are so engaging because they each have a specific fear or obstacle that is central to their character. Seeing them overcome the trappings of their problems and fulfill their role as a hero helps an audience connect with them. Superman doesn't have the realization that his weapons are being used for evil, like Iron Man, or the duality of The Hulk. All of the other A-list heroes have paths that evolve them as characters which Superman is sharply lacking in.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
