10 Reasons Why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Is Going To Fail

3. Shooting In Anamorphic

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man was shot on digital and looked great for the most part, yet for undisclosed reasons, this sequel is going to be filmed in anamorphic. While there are plenty of good reasons to use the format (it is great for creating natural lens flares, for instance), shouldn't these films have a little stylistic consistency - that is to say, stick to a style rather than keep deviating. Though average viewers might not notice the difference, tech nerds will no doubt find it a pretty suspect decision; if something worked the first time - which it ostensibly did, at least from a technical level - why tempt fate by trying something new that's totally unnecessary? It's hardly going to make or break the film, but it's just a bit of a strange artistic move on the part of Webb.
