10 Reasons Why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Is Going To Fail

4. Uncle Ben Flashbacks?

The Amazing Spider-Man I wasn't too thrilled about how brazenly ASM recalled the exact same beats from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man; of course, the death of Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) is a pivotal moment of Spider-Man lore, but to see the scene play out again just seems like a huge waste of time for all involved. Sheen gives it his all, but when it was announced recently that he would also be appearing in ASM2, I couldn't do anything except groan as I drew another strike against the film. While it's fair to assume that Sheen will only be showing up in flashback form - probably revealing more about Peter's parents - are we not over the whole Uncle Ben dying thing yet? It just seems like they're going to labour the point - as if they haven't already - to the extent of total exhaustion. I'd rather see Webb and co. pressing on with something new that hasn't been covered by Sam Raimi.
