Miss Piggy is a wonder to behold in any role; an onscreen personality with more presence and ferocity than almost anyone. And she attacks the role of Emily Cratchit with both barrels firing. But there is also a sensitivity and love running through Emily's veins, her dedication to her family just as big a part of her character as Miss Piggy's larger-than-life persona.

The Mrs Cratchit character gets some of the best lines and the funniest moments, but she can also flip from tragedy to happiness in the flick of a switch. This versatility turns what could so easily have been a throwaway role into one of the film's most successful elements. She is flanked on either side by her two daughters, a supporting act always ready to pick up after her excess attitude to deliver some laughs of their own.

Mrs Cratchit is an effortlessly endearing ingredient of the The Muppet Christmas Carol's success, a powerhouse of a woman who makes the most of her torrid living situation. Her place in the heart of her home toiling over Christmas dinner is beyond doubt a more traditional vision of family, but a family it remains - and this is the most important thing.
