10 Reasons Why Total Remake Sucks

3. No Richter

One of my biggest gripes with the remake is the absence of Richter, who was in the original a far more memorable antagonist than the head honcho himself, Cohagen. Gifted character actor Michael Ironside brought a tenacity and very real menace to the character, that made the thrill of the chase all that more exciting, while Cohagen and Lori had their own separate agendas with Quaid. In this remake, he is nowhere to be seen, and as mentioned before, his character has essentially been combined with Lori's, giving Kate Beckinsale double-duty as the duplicitous "wife" and the ruthless killing machine. One struggles to imagine why Wiseman would elide such an iconic and important character, except for giving his wife the opportunity for more screen time. And depressingly, her death in the new film isn't a might as memorable as the deaths of either Lori or Richter in the original.
