10 Reboots/Sequels That Didn't Know Why The Originals Were Popular
6. The Dark Knight Rises
Christopher Nolan is considered one of the best directors working today, but it doesn't mean he is without fault. His movies often suffer from plot holes, and his masterpiece of a Batman trilogy is no exception. The Dark Knight has many details that seem to get lost in the rush, like how The Joker could have known to get captured by the 'deceased' Jim Gordon, or when the cellphone-stomach bomb would need to go off.
However, audiences ignore this with ease, because the movie is so fast-paced and the characters so compelling that they cannot divide up their attention span for both the movie and its flaws. It's ingenious, and it is why Nolan has made so many successful and critically-acclaimed films.
So when the pacing of The Dark Knight Rises was inconsistent, allowing for many dull periods, the audience could pick up on these plot holes. Whether it's Bruce Wayne healing from a broken spine and made it back to Gotham with no resources in two months, or Batman escaping the range of a nuclear bomb in 30 seconds, these flaws were now exposed.
There was no way to exceed expectations after The Dark Knight, but the film makers could have avoided such a sour end to the trilogy if they had only paid attention to the importance of pacing.
