10 Recent Films That Totally Blew The Ending

8. The Craft: Legacy

On the Rocks Bill Murray Rashida Jones

The recently released soft reboot/sequel to the 1996 cult classic The Craft was, as expected, more of a rehash of the original film than anything particularly inventive in its own right.

It did nevertheless update the formula for a new generation, and so between its inclusive, likeable cast and abundance of social commentary, was hardly a bad movie, just a bit of a forgettable one.

But the film well and truly threw away its potential to stand on its own two feet by tacking on a lazy fan service ending, revealing that protagonist Lily's (Cailee Spaeny) birth mother is none other than Nancy Downs (Fairuza Balk), the antagonist of the first movie.

More than anything this was a desperate attempt to set up a third film by linking the first two movies together in an explicit albeit wholly contrived way.

Though the reveal raises a few vaguely interesting questions - namely the identity of Lily's father - between the poor reviews and likely mediocre VOD sales (given the lack of reporting so far), it's probable that the tease was ultimately all for nothing.
