7. Life-Altering Injuries - Scream VI (2023)

A trip to the big city was precisely what the Scream franchise needed, after five previous films spent essentially rerunning different variations of the same plot in and around the small, death-stricken town of Woodsboro. Thus, number VI transplants the action to NYC, kicking off the break from tradition with a shocking opening sequence Ghostface reveal. Things only get wilder from here, as the ghosts of Ghostface's past stalk our little group of survivors.

Unfortunately, in breaking from tradition, Scream VI doesn't necessarily know where to stop, and previously dispensable characters can now suffer mortal wounds and get back up for another movie. But that doesn't mean the ramifications of such injuries can be treated so callously -- just ask creaky, broken, old Dewey from the franchise's last entry.

And nobody should fear this more than Chad (Mason Gooding). Immediately after sealing the deal with his on-screen honey Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad falls victim to the killers' knives, a dozen or so times... and survives!

He may be laughing it off as he's wheeled into an ambulance at the end of the film, but that's a dozen fresh internal injuries on top of the seven or so stabs he received in the previous film. The amount of physical therapy, invasive surgery and life-changing alterations coming his way are going to be no laughing matter at all.
