10 Recent Horror Movies Ruined By Their Third Act

9. Cobweb

Trap Josh Hartnett
Lionsgate

Most of last year's Cobweb was smart and suspenseful, revolving around a young boy, Peter (Woody Norman), who comes to believe that his parents (Lizzy Caplan and Anthony Starr) have hidden their unwanted child, Sarah, in the walls of their home.

Caplan and Starr's brilliantly ambiguous performances do enough to keep the audience guessing, but all that fine work evaporates in the final third when Sarah is finally revealed.

Sarah is ultimately shown to be a deformed woman with huge piercing eyes and gangly limbs who moves around like a spider, hence the film's title.

But the film's budget evidently couldn't support Sarah's ambitious design, which is conceived through a combination of poor VFX and low lighting to conceal said effects.

Beyond the disappointing visual fidelity, Sarah's just incredibly silly looking as horror villains go, ensuring that all the meticulous work of that opening hour was basically for nought, the finale laying a giant, laughable goose egg.
