10 Recent Horror Movies Ruined By Their Third Act

8. Abigail

Abigail's first two acts were a sure blast, as long as you can forgive the inordinate amount of time we're forced to wait for the revelation that the young title character (Alisha Weir) is actually a vampire - a fact given away for free by the trailers.

Yet as a bloody-funny good time, that opening hour is rock solid, though when it comes time to tie things off, writers Stephen Shields and Guy Busick evidently penned themselves into a corner and struggled to find a compelling way out.

The unconvincing twists come thick and fast - kingpin Lambert (Giancarlo Esposito) is revealed to be a secret vampire, Frank (Dan Stevens) then agrees to be turned into one out of nowhere, and Frank subsequently turns on Lambert and kills him.

This prompts Abigail and protagonist Joey (Melissa Barrera) to form an uneasy team to kill Frank, after which we're "treated" to a Dracula (Matthew Goode) cameo so hamfisted it feels like it was added in reshoots - even though, by all accounts, Abigail was always inspired by the 1936 film Dracula's Daughter.

Abigail's third act isn't boring, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
