10 Recent Horror Movies That Had No Right To Be This Good

Where movies about huge, killer spiders are concerned, audiences pretty much know what they're getting, and most of the time it tends to be a campy B-movie schlock-fest rather than, y'know, something that's genuinely good. Not that there's really anything wrong with some self-aware trash, either.

And so, French horror film Infested seemed like it'd be a fun, low-calorie thrill ride and little else, right? Wrong.

To the credit of filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček, he dares to tackle the heightened subject matter totally earnestly - this isn't a goofy comedy in the vein of Eight Legged Freaks, but a straight-faced creature feature that's as serious as a heart attack.

In addition to the film's refreshingly unsentimental mean streak, it also touts surprisingly rich character development and timely themes for a movie of this type, which combined with the robust spider effects, makes Infested quite arguably the best giant spider film of all time.

In any event, it's certainly the better of the two spider movies released last year, having released mere weeks after the not-bad Australian horror Sting.
