If you like possession movies and you're a fan of the cult classic 1992 horror mockumentary Ghostwatch, Late Night with the Devil basically feels like a mandatory sit.

David Dastmalchian, who has carved out a respectable career as a talented character actor over the last 15 years, finally graduates to leading man status in this stylistically incredible, brilliantly tricksy horror that takes some truly wild swings, almost all of them wholly successful.

Given how thoroughly trained audiences are to sniff out faux-period fare today, it's nothing short of miraculous how well this passes muster as a project truly ripped straight out of the 1970s.

It's tough to say much more than that without nodding towards the surprises Late Night with the Devil has in store, but as a film that peers back at the past of both the genre and society while doing some wonderfully bold and inventive things, it's a rousing success.
