10. The Domestic Abuse Launching Point - The Reef: Stalked
Andrew Traucki's The Reef is viewed by some as the greatest shark movie not titled Jaws. So, when Traucki delivered a follow-up last year to that 2010 picture, hope was high that The Reef: Stalked would prove to be another stellar shark feature.
Unfortunately, The Reef: Stalked failed on so many levels to match its predecessor, and one thing that caught many off-guard was the film's initial launching point.
As Stalked opens, sisters Cath and Nic and their pals Jodie and Lisa enjoy a dive just off their local coastline. There's pretty underwater visuals, there's a spot of spear fishing, and all is well. Things sour, though, when Cath's husband Greg turns up to take her home.
Immediately, Greg is an aggressive, controlling prick who berates his wife, with Cath sheepishly getting in the car in order to not cause even more of a scene.
That night, Nic receives a troubling text from her sister. By the time she makes it to her sibling's house, she finds a stunned Greg sat at the kitchen counter, and tragically finds Cath's corpse in the bathtub, where she'd be drowned by her partner.
The Reef: Stalked then jumps ahead nine months, where Nic returns from a prolonged vacation to reunite with her friends - and younger sister Annie - and embark on a trip out into the ocean, where they are tormented by a great white shark.
