When a massive hurricane hits her Florida town, young Haley ignores the evacuation orders to search for her missing father, Dave. After finding him gravely injured in their family home, the two of them become trapped by the rapidly encroaching floodwaters. With the storm strengthening, Haley and Dave discover an even greater threat than the rising water level - a relentless attack from a pack of gigantic alligators.

Crawl gives us a sense of realism. The threat of something just a little closer to home – mutated alligators.

Crawl gives you a sympathetic lead character or two, some emotional backstory, hints of family turmoil to make sure we give a damn and then it's off to the races as it pits our heroes against an unstoppable eating machine. And once the alligators start coming, they simply don't stop. Yes, Godzilla got more screen time than in the 2014 film, but I could have done with a lot more of him and less of the agonizing expository monologues by foreign movie stars reading English from phonetic cue cards

Not only is it more realistic than titans facing off in the middle of an arctic blizzard, but the narrative actually makes sense. In Godzilla: King of Monsters, mom of the year - Dr. Emma Russell - brings her daughter with her to a laboratory where she plans to summon (and hopes to control) these titans. At least in Crawl, the family members are realistically looking out for each other instead of hurling each other into one of Earth's greatest catastrophes.
