An actor deciding to refrain from feeling the fresh splash of shower/bath water in order to fully occupy the sphere of another being isn't anything new. See Shia LaBeouf and Halle Berry's commitment to uncleanliness in Fury and Jungle Fever, for two notable examples. But that doesn't make the revelation of another new name to add to that dirty list any less questionable.
Peeling back the curtain somewhat and revealing the often overlooked realities of this decision, outside of stinking up the movie set, Benedict Cumberbatch has admitted that his six days outside of the bathing circle in order to connect to his character's "animal nature" whilst shooting The Power of the Dog left his personal life smelling a little rotten.
Whilst talking to USA Today, the British powerhouse would reveal:
"My family had yet to arrive and I thought, "I'm just going to go for it." But then she'd (director Jane Campion) invite me out for sushi or a walk and I was literally emanating – I had a biohazard zone around me. It was not a good time to cuddle up to Cumberbatch and take a selfie."
