10 Recent Movie Deaths NOBODY Saw Coming
These deaths came totally outta nowhere.
A thrilling and memorable movie death scene can help elevate a film from good to great, but one that falls short of the mark can similarly rub off on the entire rest of the movie.
And then there are those death scenes that just come wildly out of left field and leave audiences wondering what the hell just happened.
That's absolutely true of these 10 recent death scenes which, regardless of their overall quality, weren't what anyone predicted.
Perhaps the death was shockingly abruptly, maybe it pushed boundaries in ways nobody could've seen coming, or saw a most unexpected character take a cinematic dirt nap.
Whatever the reason, these deaths were all surprising in their own way, some of them proving all the more satisfying as a result, while others left audiences wondering what decisions led the filmmakers to go there.
For better or worse, these movies bamboozled all of us with these wild, weird, and straight-up unpredictable death scenes...
10. Lena Macarro - Ballerina
Mid-way through Ballerina, we learn that one of the film's assassin villains, Lena (Catalina Sandino Moreno), is actually the long-list sister of our protagonist, Eve (Ana de Armas).
It's a half-assed reveal at best, and yet audiences likely expected Lena to switch sides once the truth was out, teaming up with Eve in the third act to help her take down the cult leader known as The Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne).
But surprisingly enough that's not what happens - not even close.
A hot minute after Lena and Eve have a quasi-reconciliation, the Chancellor's goons toss some grenades into the building where they're holed up, wounding Eve and killing Lena.
It's a pretty lousy death for an apparently important character - far from the heroic sacrificial demise you might expect her to have while saving her younger sister.
Then again, considering how Ballerina was infamously salvaged by reshoots, it's possible this abrupt, lackluster death was a casualty of the film's strained editorial process.
