10 Recent Movie Endings NOBODY Saw Coming

Richard Linklater's new black comedy Hit Man was a real crowd-pleaser for the most part, though certainly arrived at a darker conclusion than most were maybe expecting.

In the climax, undercover cop Jasper (Austin Amelio) attempts to blackmail Madison (Adria Arjona) for the life insurance money of her abusive husband she killed, only for Jasper to soon pass out, his drink having been drugged by Madison.

At this point, we wonder quite what her lover Gary (Glen Powell) will do - him being a college professor and techie who poses as an assassin to help the cops with their sting operations, but doesn't actually kill people.

Regardless, Gary decides to grab a plastic bag and suffocate Jasper, in turn staging his death to look like a suicide. And to make it even sicker, he and Madison then start having sex while Jasper is still breathing his final breaths.

After this, we jump forward several years into the future, where Gary and Madison are happily settled down with two children. The End.

Given that many likely expected Gary to drop his hitman persona after seeing Madison poison Jasper, it was certainly a surprise to see him do the total opposite, instead doubling down on the suave hitman shtick and fully integrating it into his personality.

All in all, it was pretty refreshing to see a broad-skewing genre film take such an intriguingly off-kilter turn in its final moments.
