10 Recent Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected To Be Good

4. White Bird

In fairness, most people didn't even seem aware that White Bird was a partial sequel to 2017's hit coming-of-age drama Wonder.

Though the frame narrative takes place in the present day after the events of Wonder, the bulk of White Bird's story is a period drama set during World War II, so it's easy to see why there was confusion.

And honestly, it was tough to expect much from this one given that it was subject to repeated release delays, ultimately being quietly dumped in barely 1,000 cinemas in North America late last year - more than two years after its original intended release date.

You'd assume from all this, then, that White Bird was a pure dud follow-up to a film that made over $300 million worldwide in 2017.

And yet, White Bird landed a respectable 75% from critics in addition to an incredibly rare "A+" CinemaScore from general audiences, suggesting that viewers got exactly what they wanted out of it.

That Lionsgate sent the film out to die, and it went on to gross less than $10 million globally as a result, is absolutely maddening.
