10 Recent Movie Shots You Didn't Know Were Accomplished With CGI
6. Walter White's Bald Head - El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
Netflix's recent Breaking Bad post-script El Camino understandably didn't feature much in the way of CGI, though writer-director Vince Gilligan was forced to resort to some unexpected visual effects trickery after a practical one proved less convincing than expected.
Though Bryan Cranston simply shaved his head for the role of Walter White in the series, for his cameo in El Camino a bald cap was instead used.
Yet as it turned out, the cap wasn't quite convincing enough, giving Cranston a distended head which had to be digitally corrected in post-production. In Cranston's own words:
"I come to learn later on that the bald cap on top of my hair made my head look like I had swollen brain matter and they had to do some CGI correction."
This is one of those effects that just about nobody actually noticed while they were watching the film for the first time, but once you're aware of it, the faintly blurry outline around the top of Cranston's head is extremely apparent.
