10 Recent Movie Shots You Didn't Know Were Accomplished With CGI
3. All The Rain - Crawl
Though it's no surprise that this past summer's horror hit Crawl used extensive CGI to realise its blood-thirsty gators and storm-swept Florida locale, it's nevertheless a shock just how heavily the production relied on visual effects, especially considering its mere $13.5 million budget.
As expected, the stormy town of Coral Lake was largely a soundstage set with a blue screen backdrop, but even most of the rain elements in the film were added in post-production.
Though there was some water present during shooting, the violent mists weren't produced by an overheard sprinkler system as you'd reasonably expect, but largely added after-the-fact.
It looks shockingly good considering the obvious budgetary constraints, and shames many films with price tags countless times higher.
