10 Recent Movie Shots You Didn't Know Were Accomplished With CGI
2. The Joker's Bloody Face - Joker
Todd Phillips' Joker was a refreshingly grounded take on superhero fare - if you can even call it that - training its focus on a grittier, more "realistic" examination of The Joker's (Joaquin Phoenix) creation.
Yet the film isn't entirely free of CGI embellishments, with many viewers noting the liberal use of CGI blood throughout the film, especially Arthur Fleck's climactic murder of talk show host Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro).
But there's one digital assist that's a lot more subtle, and that's the iconic moment where Arthur climbs on top of a car and draws a bloody smile across his face using his own blood.
Todd Phillips recently revealed that, in order to save time on resetting Phoenix's make-up for this scene and others, any blood seen on his face throughout the film was added in post-production.
You'd never guess the blood was a CGI fabrication while watching it, but knowing how much effort it would've been to constantly re-apply Phoenix's makeup for the sake of continuity, this really makes all the sense in the world.
