10 Recent Movie Trailers That Spoiled WAY Too Much
1. The Mermaid Is The Villain - Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
It's not unfair to say that Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken has already been long forgotten barely a year after it was sent out to die by Universal.
Relatively unremarkable though the animated comedy's trailers were, they also ended up pointlessly giving away the movie's one subversive surprise.
The eventual villain turns out to be mermaid Chelsea Van Der Zee (Annie Murphy), a fact that's freely revealed in the trailers for some reason, and more than that, the marketing also showed off her climactic transformation into the monstrous Queen Nerissa.
This was so obviously spoilerific that some even speculated that Chelsea wouldn't really be the villain and the trailer was faking everybody out, but no, it was indeed an accurate account of what happens in the film proper.
One can only assume that Universal, desperate to get butts in seats by any means necessary, thought that dropping the veil on the film's big reveal might nudge it to box office success.
Er, about that.
